Postmarking

Processing sheet metal parts for critical products is a complex organizational task related to material traceability.

Manufacturers of high-quality certified steels mark the heat number and standard on the sheet.

In industries such as bridge construction or heavy investment machinery, the variety of steel grades used in a product can be significant. Material traceability is not required for all parts, only for critical ones.

Therefore, during the cutting of nesting maps or after cutting, some parts need to be marked with texts such as Designation, Product/Assembly, Heat Number of the current metal sheet, and others.

Marking after cutting is a low-productivity operation and often accompanied by errors.

For marking by a standard NC program, the heat number of the sheet to be cut must be known in advance. This problem is rarely solvable with standard CAM systems for contour cutting and NC programming. Most often, it is programmed at or near the machine after the sheet for the respective program has been brought to the machine.

NESPERT CAM has developed a technology for marking by NC program for thermal cutting of selected parts from a nesting map with identifiers such as Part Designation, Product, and Heat Number of the current metal sheet.

We call this technology POST-MARKING, and it generally includes the following sequence of actions:

  • NESPERT CAM generates NC programs with identifiers for the texts that will change.

  • At the machine, with the help of NESPET NCV, the heat number is manually recorded in the NC program from the current sheet.

  • NESPERT NCV automatically adds the necessary commands for marking and saves the modified NC program.

Post-marking is a mandatory condition for achieving full traceability of the used metal in heavy and investment machinery.
